GET TO KNOW ME

I first moved to Sun Peaks full time in 2012, after having spent years part time in Sun Peaks as a member of the Sun Peaks ski team. I was one of the first graduates of the high school in Sun Peaks, and have worked a number of jobs here. I'm passionate about, and invested in, the future of Sun Peaks, and look forward to having an opportunity to serve this unique and amazing community.

I have work experience with government policy and economic research, and have education at the post graduate level in business administration.

I believe that I have the knowledge and the connection to the community to make a valuable contribution to Sun Peaks.  I also believe that I can bring a voice and perspective to council that may otherwise be underrepresented. I maintain that a diversity of thought, experience, and opinion can only improve the deliberations and decision making of council.

I would greatly appreciate your consideration in casting your vote for me on October 15th.

PLATFORM

Affordable Development

Over the last ten years, it has been amazing to see the growth in this community. Unfortunately, with huge demand and limited supply, housing has become extremely costly and scarce, both for young families hoping to buy, and for renters looking for somewhere to stay for the long term. This is both a challenge for residents looking to make Sun Peaks their permanent home, and for small businesses looking to find housing for employees. Finding ways to make progress on this issue will be one of my priorities.

Community Priorities

As a Councillor, it is my duty to represent and serve members of the community and give them access to the municipal decision making process and a role in deciding the priorities of our community. I intend to take the duty of representation and service seriously, and I look forward to hearing and representing your concerns. Please email me at sorgeforsunpeaks@proton.me for concerns or priorities that you wish to see addressed.

Walkability

Unlike much of Canada, Sun Peaks has a strong record of walkability, with walk paths, biking trails, and ski runs linking together much of the village. This is both important for our long term infrastructure plans and a positive part of local culture. Walkable infrastructure reduces traffic, and decreases the need for parking lots and other road infrastructure that would otherwise take up large sections of the limited space available to us. Walkable infrastructure supports the active and outdoor culture of Sun peaks, which I believe to be an important aspect of the charm and character that defines our community. I would look to expand and improve our walkable infrastructure and to ensure that walkability remains an essential part of the future development and expansion in our community.
